Milton Keynes became officially recognised as a city, and quickly identified itself as one of the top cities in the UK for growth and innovation.

Background

Brief

To commemorate Milton Keynes new title, the MK City Council tasked Whistlejacket to create a brand identity, manifesto and design system that proudly promotes the city’s heritage and forward-thinking attitude.

Solution

After engaging with community groups, businesses and other organisations, we developed a manifesto and creative platform for Milton Keynes, ‘Milton Keynes - Better by Design’, with the aim of reflecting the city’s use of contemporary design to set the agenda for urban development.

The manifesto served as the foundation for crafting a comprehensive brand identity for the new city. This included a collection of logomarks, a design system, and an accompanying style guide. We also developed branded templates and various campaign assets, targeting potential new residents, businesses, investors, and visitors.

To further enhance the brand, Whistlejacket commissioned photography to bring the identity to life and showcase the city's rich diversity.
