Background

UK Squirrel Accord is a UK-wide partnership consisting of 45 leading conservation and forestry organisations, Government agencies and companies.

Brief

Whistlejacket were asked to create a bold and engaging design system to promote the annual Red Squirrel Awareness Week, which is dedicated to increasing awareness of and action for the UK's endangered red squirrels and their conservation.

UK Squirrel Accord

Red Squirrel Awareness Week

As the Red Squirrel Awareness Week is held annually in October, we created an autumn-inspired colour palette of warm, muted oranges and reds that reflect both the season and the Red Squirrels themselves. To build a flexible design system, we developed bespoke illustrations of squirrels and native flora, including birch, field maple leaves and acorns. These elements could be used as image or text containers or as decorative details, acting as puzzle pieces within the system. We also designed a custom wordmark to distinguish the campaign from other UK Squirrel Accord initiatives. To support consistent application, we produced comprehensive brand guidelines and easy-to-use templates for the UK Squirrel Accord team.

Testimonial

‘It’s been a pleasure to work with Whistlejacket on branding and materials for the South Yorkshire Mayor’s Year of Active Travel, and for our ongoing Tree for Everyone campaign. The team was really responsive and produced some excellent and creative branding and assets.  A particular highlight were the resources for the Walk and Wheels Challenge for primary schools across the region’.
